The Chayer's: January 15th, 2009

Trying to stay warm during this cold & snowy Minnesota Winter! -20 degrees today! BRRRR! Brendan is going great! Got a "scary" call from daycare (Stacey) on Tuesday. She had called Chris' cell phone , hung up, then Chris called her back ~ no answer. Chris called me at work to see if Stacey called me. I said no. I told Chris to call me as soon as Stacey called him back. I waited 20 minutes, called Stacey myself, and she was in a bit of a panic. Everything in the end turned out fine. Brendan had gotten into one of the babies diaper bags (they are normally put away). He found the hand sanitizer, had the cover off and it was in his mouth & half gone when Stacey finally noticed. In her explanation she said it has 65% alcohol in it. When he walked away from her he was wobbly ( but as she said he is still kind of "wobbly" in general). She called poison control, and he just said to closely monitor him. She put him in the highchair to eat a few crackers. Then she says he starts dozing off????? This all happened right around his usual nap time so he is usually exhausted by then, so I guess dozing off wasn't totally unusual she said. She called the Mother of the baby to see how much she thought might have already been gone from the bottle. The poor Mom felt so bad. As I was on the phone with her, he really was just being himself, playing laughing, and she really felt that he was o.k. Long story short, I am not sure that he really got much of the hand sanitizer ingested, but poor Stacey was in a bit of a panic for a little while. I didn' t think we would have to be having the alcohol/drinking talk with Brendan so soon!
